REMEMBER, IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START!

Lesley's Mum, Mary Miller Belch, turned professional in Club Latino at the grand age of 75 years young!

Mum started Ballroom Dancing with Alex and Peggy Provan and was an original member of the first Scottish Formation Team.

Mum was also a member of the McEwan Sunday Club and competed for Renfrew in the West of Scotland League in the 1940’s under her maiden name, Mary Price.

In 1950 she won Ballroom Novice of the Year at Bobby Jones' Ballroom in Ayr.

Mum has been Secretary to me since 1979. I was glad to have her as my Honorary Secretary for Centenary Showcase in the Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow, in October 1992.

ODE TO LESLEY

Twenty Five years have come and gone

and still our Lesley soldiers on,
teaching girls both young and old
how to win medals of silver and gold,
putting on shows of such delight
that they played to packed houses every night,
making us do her every command,
till some of us got the Blue Riband!

How does she do it , I hear you ask,
well, hers is not an easy task,
for some of us have two left feet
and Lesley must sometimes want to greet,
but still she always comes up smiling
and drives us at her most beguiling
until the last the penny drops
and ELBEE Stompers come out tops.

Lesley,
We wish you many more dancing years
and raise our voices in three loud cheers
we hope you’ll still be walking the line
In the years two thousand and twenty-nine!
